eMission Solutions

As the first renewable energy marketer to offer a carbon solutions product line, we emphasize that our vision reaches far beyond that of an electricity supplier. In 2006 we blazed a new trail, with the launch of eMission Solutions, a division of Green Mountain Energy Company. eMission Solutions sells enterprise level environmental solutions to national corporations who exhibit forward thinking philosophies on sustainability.

Green Mountain began in 1997 with a simple idea: “to change the way power is made”. We believe that if given a choice, consumers will choose a cleaner electricity product over polluting fossil fuels. When businesses and residential customers exercise their choice and elect to have Green Mountain Energy Company serve their electricity needs, they take control of the type of generation that is put onto the power grid on their behalf.

Since our inception, Green Mountain has been a pioneer and demonstrated consistent growth and innovation in the rapidly developing marketplace for renewable energy. Each year we have taken tangible steps towards realizing our mission and living up to our values of “integrity”, “sustainability” and “results.”

Our Ideology: Environmental Stewardship

“Environmental Stewardship” is a core value of Green Mountain Energy Company. It underpins our corporate mission: to change the way power is made - a mission we have embarked on to help make our air cleaner and our environment healthier, a mission that takes us on the path to a sustainable society.

At the core of our philosophy on sustainability, is a belief that there is a constructive relationship within the intersection of business and the environment. We believe that in doing well by good, business can prosper and natural systems thrive.

Green Mountain's commitment to environmental stewardship is multifaceted. It is manifested in the design of our energy products and in our efforts to engage in daily business practices that promote a healthier planet.

Walking the talk: Green Mountain carbon neutral in 2005

At a time in our global history where corporations are being approached to help solve environmental problems, Green Mountain provides an important example of a company that has remained true to its environmental commitments and achieved success in a competitive and complex marketplace.

Because of the threat of global warming from increased CO2 concentrations in the air, we are guided by the precautionary principle. Therefore, we estimate the CO2 emissions from our key business activities and act to reduce or offset them. In 2004 we pledged to offset 50% of our corporate emissions with green power purchases for all emissions reported for the EPA Climate Leaders program. In the spirit of continuous improvement, we raised our 2005 goal to 100% mitigation. This commitment through the EPA Climate Leaders Program is until 2010.

“Green Mountain Energy Company's voluntary participation in the EPA's Climate Leaders program demonstrates a serious commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives Division. Green Mountain's aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target will help lead the way in improving our global environment.”

-- Kathleen Hogan, Director of EPA's Climate Protection Partnership

We are a company that helps combat the problem

Since 1999 as a group, customers choosing Green Mountain Energy Company’s electricity products prevented approximately 2.7 million tons of CO2 from entering our air. This is like not driving 6.1 billion miles, taking 495,000 cars off the road for an entire year, or the annual carbon sequestration from 227 million trees.

  • We measure our green house gas emissions resulting from our corporate business practices and offset 100% of our corporate environmental footprint.
  • We publicly issue an annual sustainability report that discloses our corporate environmental policies and performance.
  • We create demand for the development new renewable facilities that help decrease our dependence on fossil fuels.
